Brad Keselowski and the 2 Crew fought through a frustrating day at Chicagoland to come out on the other side with a Top 5 finish and plenty to build on heading back to Daytona.
Starting from P12, an early pit stop call gave the 2 a leg up on the rest of the field to finish Stage 1 in the second position, gaining some valuable bonus points in the process. But after his next stop under caution but him back on cycle, the Stars and Stripes Miller Lite Ford Mustang was a handful and Brad was mired in the middle of the pack for all of Stage 2.
However, track bar and air pressure adjustments late in the stage brought the Deuce to life and BK used the final stage to pass several cars into the Top 10 and eventually up to fifth. That was as far as he would go, checking in there after the final round of pit stops and settling for a P5 finish.
“We dug really hard at the end. We had a good run at the end and made a lot of passes and made a lot of ground with some good strategy on pit road and good execution by the Miller Lite team,” Brad said. “We had some real good glimpses of having what it takes but it wasn’t long enough. It was a struggle all day. We couldn’t get a handle on it. We got our best at the end which is certainly what matters. We will take it and learn from it and move on.”
